Little Bunny Foo Foo

Lately I've been singing "Little Bunny Foo Foo" to our oldest (4 yrs. old). She seems to have an even more difficult time listening to us these days. I've been changing the end a little by having the good fairy tell him that she gives him three, two, one chance, etc. but not saying what the consequence will be, and then ending it with "Poof!" (he was gone). "Where did he go?" my daughter asks with big eyes. "To a very long time out for naughty bunnies," I answer. "Ohh," she says solemnly with even bigger eyes. "When does he get out?" "When he can prove that he's truly sorry and will listen." "Ohhh."

Now that she knows the song, sometimes all I have to say is, "Little Bunny Foo Foo ..." and she'll get the point. (Note for the rest of the story that I have never actually called her Little Bunny Foo Foo.) Well I was occupied last night with the baby in our room and I heard her in the kitchen opening the pantry door. I asked from the other room, "What are you doing?" No answer. So I venture into the hallway and look in the doorway, where I saw her putting things back into the pantry that had been left on the counter from supper. She looked at me as she put more in the pantry and said very matter-of-factly, "Mommy, I'm not being Little Bunny Foo Foo. I'm just helping." And so she was. I like those little surprises!
